My parents used to take daily walks near a rural monastery. One late afternoon they met a small calico cat coming out of the woods. She was far too friendly to be feral, so my parents guessed she was a drop-off. They saw her a number of times after that. She was thin from not eating regularly, but still friendly. One night my mother sat down on the ground to pat her. Slinky promptly climbed in her lap, curled up and purred. Everyone knew she’d now found a new family and home.
